Revitalizing the Mobility Workshop at Jaffna Jaipur Centre for Disability Rehabilitation
The Jaffna Jaipur Centre for Disability Rehabilitation (JJCDR) serves as the primary prosthetics and orthotics center in the North and East of Sri Lanka. Founded by a team of mothers, this non-profit organization is governed by an all-women volunteer board. JJCDR offers prosthetics, orthotics, mobility devices, and physical rehabilitation services. The prolonged civil war in Sri Lanka has led to a significant disabled population in the North and East provinces, with a significant need for mobility devices. JJCDR provides its services at near cost. Currently, it has 19 staff, including 7 disabled staff members. In 2023, JJCDR provided 125 artificial limbs, 60 tricycles and completed 550 repairs.
JJCDR has a mobility manufacturing workshop in another nearby location. The facility was in bad repair. The roof needed to be replaced. LetUsHelpNow Foundation provided funds to repair roof as well as the ceiling.
