Description

The Nuffield School for the Deaf and Blind cares for 142 children.  Majority of them are hearing impaired, while several are vision impaired.

In 2023, with the help of the  Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), we helped construct 14 rainwater harvesting tanks. Making use of this additional water supply, the school is expanding its gardens and farm programs. These gardens provide vocational training opportunities as well as nutritional food.  During the project planning, we committed to providing assistance for the gardening and farm setup, including for vermicomposting, natural fertilizer production pits, raised-bed gardens, and fruit tree planting. We are contributing LKR 390,000 for above noted gardening and farm initiatives at Nuffield School.

On the 15th of next month, the Canadian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka will formally hand over the rainwater harvesting tanks and gardens to the school in a traditional ceremony.
