Expansion of Farm and Poultry Infrastructure Setup for Vanni Association for Visually Handicapped

The Vanni Association for Visually Handicapped (Kilinochchi) was established in 2013 to assist individuals who lost their eyesight during the years of war in the North and East of Sri Lanka. Currently, the association consists of 278 member families, including 149 children,

For the month of April, the LetUsHelpNow Foundation is assisting the organization in expanding its chilli cultivation and launching a poultry farming initiative. The income generated from these projects will assist all members while providing direct support to eight members working on the farm.

Expansion of Chilli Cultivation and Irrigation System Installation (LKR 490,000.00)

Last year, LetUsHelpNow supported the Vanni Association for Visually Handicapped in starting chilli cultivation on their ½-acre plot. Following a highly successful harvest, pumpkins are currently planted on that land. Eight staff members from women-led households benefit from this farming work.

As the second phase of this project, we are helping to expand farming operations. An additional ½ acre of land will be prepared for chilli cultivation. Furthermore, a sprinkler irrigation system will be installed to ensure efficient water usage. We will also cover the costs of acquiring additional chilli plants and fertilizer.

Native Poultry Farming and Azolla Cultivation for Feed (LKR 390,000.00)

The Vanni Association for Visually Handicapped has unused facilities that can be converted for poultry farming. Recognizing local market conditions, the organization has chosen to raise native poultry using primarily organic farming practices. Project details include:

• 100 native chicks and three months' worth of feed.
• Azolla pond setup: This will provide local, organic, and healthy livestock feed while lowering overall costs.
• Fencing: Setting up a secure area for the chickens to range freely.

Egg production is expected to begin within three months. After six months, the association will be able to distribute chicks produced on the farm to member families to help improve their livelihoods. The existing staff will manage this activity, and a share of the benefits will be allocated to them as well.

வன்னி விழிப்புலனற்றோர் சங்கம் (கிளிநொச்சி), 2013 ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல் போரினால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட, குறிப்பாகப் பார்வையிழந்த 278 குடும்பங்களின் வாழ்வாதாரத்திற்காக அர்ப்பணிப்புடன் இயங்கி வருகிறது. இவர்களில் பெரும்பான்மையானவர்கள் போரின் போது தமது பார்வையை இழந்தவர்கள் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

தற்போது இவர்களது வாழ்வாதாரத்தை மேம்படுத்தவும், சுயதொழில் வாய்ப்புகளை உருவாக்கவும் பின்வரும் விவசாய மற்றும் பண்ணை மேம்பாட்டுத் திட்டங்கள்

1. மிளகாய் பயிர்ச்செய்கை மற்றும் நீர்ப்பாசனத் திட்டம்
ரூபா 490,000

கடந்த ஆண்டு வெற்றிகரமாக மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட மிளகாய் பயிர்ச்செய்கையின் மூலம் கிடைத்த வருமானத்தைக் கொண்டு, தற்போது பூசணி பயிரிடப்பட்டுள்ளது (எதிர்பார்க்கப்படும் ஆகக்குறைந்த  விளைச்சல்: 5,000 கிலோ). மிளகாய் பயிர்ச்செய்கையின் 8 பெண் தலைமைத்துவக் குடும்பங்களுக்கு வேலைவாய்ப்பு வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. அத்துடன் தொடர்ந்தும் அடுத்த பருவ மிளாகாய் பயிர்ச்செய்கையை மேற்கொள்ளவுள்ளனர்.

திட்டத்தின் விவரங்கள்:

• சங்கத்திற்குச் சொந்தமான மேலதிக அரை ஏக்கர் தரிசு நிலத்தை மிளகாய் பயிர்ச்செய்கைக்காகத் தயார் செய்தல்.
• தூவல் நீர்ப்பாசன (Sprinkler Irrigation) கட்டமைப்பை நிறுவுதல்.
• உரம் மற்றும் புதிய மிளகாய் கன்றுகளை நடுவதற்கான செலவுகள்.

2. நாட்டுக்கோழி வளர்ப்பு மற்றும் அசோலா தடாகம்
ரூபா 390,000

சுயசார்பு பொருளாதாரத்தை உருவாக்கும் நோக்கில், ஏற்கனவே உள்ள பண்ணை வசதிகளை மேம்படுத்தத் திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

திட்டத்தின் விவரங்கள்:

• 100 நாட்டுக்கோழி குஞ்சுகள் கொள்வனவு செய்தல் மற்றும் முதல் 3 மாதங்களுக்கான தீவனம்.
• அசோலா (Azolla) வளர்ப்புத் தடாகம்: கோழிகளுக்குப் புரதச்சத்து மிக்க இயற்கை உணவை வழங்க நீர்ப்பாசி வளர்க்கும் தடாகத்தை அமைத்தல். இதன் மூலம் தீவனச் செலவு குறையும்.
• வெளிக்களம் அமைத்தல்: கோழிகள் சுதந்திரமாக உலாவித் திரிவதற்கு வலைக்கம்பிகளால் பாதுகாப்பான வேலி அமைத்தல்.

எதிர்பார்க்கப்படும் பலன்: 3 மாதங்களில் முட்டை உற்பத்தி தொடங்கும். 6 மாதங்களின் பின் ஆர்வம் உள்ள பயனாளிக் குடும்பங்களுக்குக் கோழிக்குஞ்சுகள் வழங்கி, அவர்களின் வீட்டுப் பொருளாதாரத்தை உயர்த்தத் திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.
