Monthly Projects - September 2022
For September 2022, LetUsHelpNow is undertaking several projects that will assist vulnerable members of our communities, and those who care for them.
Ezhuka - Capacity Building Workshop for Special Needs Caregivers
Ezhuka is a capacity building project by LetUsHelpNow Foundation. Through this initiative, we are helping to organize a workshop to build the capacity of the caregivers of special needs children to better understand and serve the personal, educational, and career development of those children. This is in collaboration with Victory Special Study Centre, and Ozanam Special Needs Care Home in Batticaloa. Four experts associated with Victory Special Study Centre are traveling from Colombo to Batticaloa to deliver three days of sessions to seven caregivers from Ozanam, seven teachers from Ozanam, six teachers from Mencafep.com, and to parents from the local region. We hope this workshop can be a model that can be delivered to other special needs care homes as well.
Mentoring Initiative for Refugee Camp Youth
Bhavanisagar refugee camp in Tamil Nadu consists of more than 1000 families ( around 3,800 family members). Higher education and vocational opportunities for the children and youth from these camps are limited due to their precarious legal status as well as their disadvantaged environment. Thus, the children are demotivated to even undertake basic education. LetUsHelpNow has been in discussion with volunteers from the camp to build a mentoring program to motivate and guide the students with their studies and career pursuits.
Audio Books Distribution for Visually Impaired Children
Thumbi (thumbigal.com) has published its first braille book of three inspirational children’s stories. We are purchasing 10 copies and distributing them to visually impaired homes and to several public libraries. Currently, the books have arrived in Jaffna.
Assistance for Eastern Care Homes
We will be providing dry foods assistance to three care homes in Eastern Sri Lanka. We will assist two care homes in Eastern Sri Lanka to set up or expand home gardens.
Our projects meet urgent needs while also contributing to a longer term vision and impact. Please join hands as you always do to undertake this wonderful work. Thank you.
