Description

The Jaffna Jaipur Centre for Disability Rehabilitation (JJCDR) serves as the primary prosthetics and orthotics center in the North and East of Sri Lanka. Founded by a team of mothers, this non-profit organization is governed by an all-women volunteer board. JJCDR offers prosthetics, orthotics, mobility devices, and physical rehabilitation services. The prolonged civil war in Sri Lanka has led to a significant disabled population in the North and East provinces, with a significant need for mobility devices. JJCDR provides its services at near cost. Currently, it has 19 staff, including 7 disabled staff members. In 2023, JJCDR provided 125 artificial limbs, 60 tricycles and completed 550 repairs.

JJCDR has a mobility manufacturing workshop in another nearby location. JJCDR is finding it difficult to manage the workshop in the separate facility. Colocating the mobility manufacturing operations in the primary office will reduce the operational cost, improve supervision of staff, and help it more effectively coordinate the manufacturing workflow. JJCDR will be better positioned to further improve its services. Though fully modernizing the JJCDR is a much larger project, co-locating the mobility manufacturing workshop is an integral component of that project.

The project activities include preparing the primary location to accommodate four workstations, wiring/partitioning/painting, moving the equipment, and improving the workflow. Experts from the local Colombo Friend-in-Need Society (CFINS) and the diaspora are collaborating on this initiative.

The LetUsHelpNow Foundation is proud to fund the project ‘Revitalizing the Mobility Workshop at JJCDR.’ With an anticipated budget of LKR 1,700,000, the project aims to make significant improvements to JJCDR operations. Your contribution to this project will enable JJCDR to continue making transformative enhancements for the benefit of the disabled community. Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a difference.
